| Portsmouth landmark gone — On many of my excursions to downtown Portsmouth, I couldn't resist photographing the large Kodak sign attached to the Eagle Photo building as I passed by. It is/was a landmark after all and has been hanging there as long as I can remember. Today's visit was different. I knew the store had moved to a new location and suspected the sign would go eventually too, but I secretly hoped the new owner(s) would keep it there, perhaps opening up a funky little cafe decorated with bits of regional nostalgia, not that Portsmouth needs yet another funky little cafe decorated with bits of regional nostalgia. It was just a thought. Still, I can't help but feel Portsmouth has removed a small piece of its character in the name of progress, and property values. You can view several photographs I've taken of the sign here, here, and here and read an article about the buildings fate here. |
