Walking Derry – On Tuesday evenings I go to Derry for my guitar lesson. And when I have the opportunity, I spend a little time before the lesson walking around downtown with my camera. There is an interesting mix of old/abandoned, and renovated buildings in close proximity to each other. Some might see this as a problem. I tend to think the visual contrast makes for an interesting subject to photograph.

On this evening, two people approached me to ask what I was photographing and why. After a brief explanation, I was able to squelch their fears and engage in conversation about the particulars of the property I was photographing. It's funny how a man and a camera can bring such anxiety to some people. In this particular situation, the property owner was concerned that I was from the city gathering visual evidence in an effort to purge him from his property.
